Golf Cart Beeping and Won't Move: Brand-by-Brand Fix

EZGO beep codes, Club Car fault beeps, and Yamaha error indicators. Translated and actionable.

Fast Answer: Count the Beeps

The beep count or pattern identifies the fault. Write down what you hear before doing anything else — beep codes differ by brand and year. Then use the brand section below to decode it.

E-Z-GO RXV

LED blink codes on instrument cluster. See EZGO section below.

Club Car Precedent

Dashboard fault indicator. Blink sequences identify controller and battery faults.

Yamaha Drive2

Fault light on dash. Error codes require Yamaha diagnostic tool for full decode, but common codes below.

E-Z-GO Beep Codes

The EZGO RXV uses an LED indicator cluster on the dash. The controller communicates fault codes by blinking the LED in sequences. Count the number of blinks per burst.

Blink CountFaultFirst Check
1 blinkBattery voltage lowCharge pack; measure total voltage
2 blinksITS (throttle sensor) faultTest ITS resistance; replace if inconsistent
3 blinksMotor or wiring faultCheck motor cable connections
4 blinksController overheat or internal faultAllow cool-down; check battery and load
5 blinksSpeed sensor faultCheck sensor gap and wiring
TXT modelsOlder TXT may beep 3× if key left onTurn key off when parked; battery drain warning

Club Car Precedent Fault Codes

The Club Car Precedent displays fault codes through a red LED in the instrument panel. Count the blink pattern (short blinks vs long blinks indicate different codes). Common codes:

LED PatternFaultAction
1 blinkMotor stalled or no movement detectedCheck for mechanical binding; test solenoid
2 blinksController overheatLet cool 20 minutes; check for heavy loads
3 blinksBattery voltage lowCharge pack fully; test individual batteries
4 blinksAccelerator fault (PDS sensor)Test pedal position sensor output
Rapid blinkingInternal controller faultPower cycle; if persistent, controller replacement

Yamaha Drive2 Error Indicator

The Drive2 has a fault indicator light on the instrument cluster. Some fault codes can be read with a simple voltmeter at the diagnostic port; others require the Yamaha Engine-i diagnostic tool. Common user-diagnosable situations:

Generic: Cart Beeps 3× Then Stops

Many golf cart controllers beep three times as a warning when battery voltage drops to a low threshold. This is a battery warning, not a controller fault. The cart may continue to operate at reduced speed or stop entirely depending on the low-voltage cutoff setting. Charge the pack immediately. If pack voltage tests healthy after charging but the beeping returns quickly, test individual batteries under load — a failing cell will cause rapid voltage drop.

Tools You'll Need

Diagnosing any of the faults above requires a basic multimeter. A battery load tester is also useful if the beeping points to low pack voltage.

Digital Multimeter — Klein CL390

Measures DC voltage for pack and individual battery tests. Required for every step in this guide.

Battery Load Tester — Carbon Pile

Tests individual 6V and 8V cells under load. A resting voltage test passes a weak cell; a load test catches it.
