When an EZGO won't move in one or both directions and the solenoid doesn't click, the F/R switch is the first suspect. Continuity test takes under 10 minutes.
Disconnect the F/R switch connector. Set your multimeter to continuity. Probe the appropriate terminal pairs in each switch position. Forward should give continuity on F terminals; Reverse on R terminals. If either position is open circuit, the switch is failed. Replacement cost: $25–$80. Swap time: 20 minutes.
Forward contacts failed. Reverse works = switch problem, not battery/solenoid.
Could be switch or upstream (key, battery). Test switch continuity in both positions.
Cart works sometimes. Internal contact corrosion or worn spring. Replace switch.
EZGO TXT models use a rotary or lever-style F/R switch. Older TXT carts (pre-2000) have a large under-seat mechanical switch. Post-2000 TXT models have a smaller dash-mounted switch. The RXV uses a rocker-style switch in the dash. All of them are in series with the solenoid control circuit, so failure prevents the solenoid from energizing.
| Switch Type | Cost | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| TXT under-seat rotary (pre-2000) | $35–$80 | 1994–1999 TXT |
| TXT dash-mount lever (2000+) | $25–$60 | 2000–present TXT |
| RXV rocker switch | $30–$70 | 2008+ RXV |
