Club Car Solenoid Problems: Test and Replace

Same click test as EZGO, slightly different solenoid location. 36V and 48V Club Car solenoid diagnosis and replacement in 30 minutes.

Fast Answer

Press pedal. Click under seat = solenoid coil is working. Now probe the two large posts in continuity mode during that click. No continuity = contact plate failed. Replace solenoid ($25–$60). No click at all = trace back to F/R switch and OBC signal, not the solenoid itself.

Location and Testing

On DS models: the solenoid is under the seat, typically mounted on the battery tray on the passenger side. On Precedent: under the seat, on the frame near the batteries. It's a cylindrical or rectangular relay with 2 small spade terminals (control circuit) and 2 large bolt terminals (main power).

  1. Key on, F/R in Forward, Run/Tow in RUN.
  2. Press pedal, listen for click. Click = coil good. No click = test control circuit voltage at small spade terminals (should read pack voltage during pedal press).
  3. With pedal pressed, probe large bolt terminals in continuity mode. Continuity = solenoid closing correctly. No continuity = replace solenoid.
  4. Coil resistance test: key off, probe small terminals in ohms mode. 10–20 ohms = healthy coil. OL (open) = coil failed.
